Shirley is a working mom, an engineer, a veteran and a Christian. She was born and raised in Lexington and has lived her entire life in the 45th district, except for her years serving her country in the military. Because of supportive parents, helpful guidance councilors and Pell Grants, Shirley was able to graduate from the University of Kentucky after growing up in public schools. When very few women were in the field, she majored in Mechanical Engineering. While the American Dream may seem like it is slipping away, and for some it has never existed, Shirley has started to envision a Kentucky for this generation and for the ones to come.
