Running for: Ohio Supreme Court
Judge Marilyn Zayas knows what it means to persist in the face of adversity. Born in Harlem, New York to a seamstress and printer, Judge Zayas worked hard to be able to attend college for a degree in Computer Science. In 1994 however, Zayas made the difficult decision to leave her career in technology and pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer.
Since then, Judge Zayas has made her mark in the law circuit by becoming the first Latina judge elected to an Ohio Court of Appeals, and as a strong advocate for accessibility and student outreach in law. Judge Zayas founded “Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders,” a program for Ohio students of all ages to visit the Court of Appeals and learn about law.
Judge Zayas’ contributions to the Ohio community have been recognized by Good Morning America, City of Cincinnati City Council, University of Cincinnati College of Law, and the Ohio Commission of Hispanic and Latino Affairs among others. Judge Zayas is running for Ohio Supreme Court to make sure that everyone who comes into her courtroom has a fair shot at justice.
